My earliest Memories

Sometimes it is hard to distinguish what I actually remember from what I was told by my parents.  But my earliest memories are living in Pensacola Fla. My father was a flight instructor at the Navy’s flight school, probably around 1955 when I was maybe 3 yrs old, my brother a baby,  my mother probably 26 or so, my father around 30.

  • I remember taking the bus to Mrs Shott’s nursery school a couple of blocks away
  • I remember watching Captain Kangaroo on TV and not wanting to leave that to go nursery school.
  • I remember them having found a poisonous snake on the playground at the Nursery School and “the adults” having gotten a local man to come find and kill it.
  • We had a german shepherd dog named Betsy who was very protective of me.  I recall that as a toddler I abused Betsy but Betsy never got angry with me.
  • I remember being amazed at finding a grasshopper with a baby grasshopper on its back, amazed at “mother and child,   I recall that I was very excited and showed my mother this amazing find while she was talking to a neighbor lady and she seemed unimpressed slightly annoyed at the interruption over something I found fascinating. I recall being disappointed at her response.
  • I remember we had only one car, and my mother would drive my father to work early in the morning, so that she could have the car, and I remember sleeping laid out on the back seat.
